I got a hen that her primary wing feathers are getting pulled out and causing lots of bleeding by bully hens. Is there a shield or cover that you would recommend to allow for healing and yet still allows her to open her wings?

Thanks.

Today she had a lot of blood on her wing & it doesn't seem to bother her. I think it is just one hen that is bothering her not the whole flock. We separated her before from the flock for about three weeks a year ago & she wants to be with them. It bothers me more then it does her. I was thinking is there like a cape I could put on her to protect her wing feathers from being pulled out & let feathers to grow back.

If you know who the bully is, I would separate her. Take her away for a few weeks, away where the others cant see her. Force her to worry about her own business of getting a new place in the flock. I had this happen too. But it was quite a few of the girls being mean to one. I made a separate area in the coop for the victim. They could see but not touch. It took a few months, and the victim is lowest on the pecking order, but they don't do much more to her than give a little peck if she's in their way.

What are the breeds and ages of the birds you have? What are you feeding them? What are the dimensions of their coop and run? Do they free range or are they confined?
