help !!!!!

I want to get 2 egg laying hens..don`t know anything about them but really want to learn about them.. nothing better the a fresh egg.. what kind should I buy. I have cats..will they still lay eggs if there is activity in your yard like, birds and cats hanging around?? I know I have to put the in a cage..

LOl, I got my 1st eggie yesterday!!! I cooked it, but it burned!!! Sooo, I gave it to the dog. I am waiting, rosanne, weres is # 2???

Hang in there,the eggs will start coming! Check the places where eggs could be hidden. Do you have golf balls in the nesting box?

My first egg was on Thanksgiving Day last Nov from my BSL. She was 6 months old. The RIR and BR followed suit a whole month later - 7 months old!! - in late December. This year I got my girls as early as I could in the hopes that they'll start laying in August-September. My bet is on the buff orp, who is HUGE and whose wattles are starting to come in.

I have 2 golf balls in each of the 4 nesting boxes...and guess what I found today!!! 2 more eggs, one brown, one green...both in the 4th nesting box!!!

OK, now I'm feeling better.

I have been walking the yard every day for 2 weeks trying to make sure they're not hiding eggs. The only problem is the yard isn't perfectly mowed...I have a large patch of Dewberry vines and a couple bushes that have weeds under/around them. There could possibly be a hidey spot that I can't see. But right now I'm excited about my 2 new eggs and I have better faith that they know where to lay them now

Congratulations!!! It's so exciting when You get your first egg. I took a lot of pictures of mine. I put one golf ball in each nest box.
