I got carried away on ebay!

Thats how I started on ebay. I got carried away too.

I can't wait until spring, I have a bator what holds over 600 eggs. I only have 13 laying hens with 16 just starting to lay so by spring I should have 29. I'm going to save all the eggs and see how many I can get in a week. I should have about 200 then I can sell them to Agway for $1.00 each. I'm going to try and do that as many times as they want chicks.

and good luck with your hatch!

Okay, I couldn't wait until day 7 to candle. I'm seeing a few clear eggs, some with what seems like an air sac or darkening on one end, some with dark areas in the middle. Trying to figure how to post an image again! Out of the 40 some it looks like maybe 5 or 6 clear ones but i'm afraid to chuck them yet as they are brown eggs....

Yea ebay is dangerous... This was both my incubators on the same day once...

That is how you keep from hand turning each individual egg and fit more than would flat or in a turner. Slant the cartons and layer them right against each other. However in a still air this means the top of the carton is the max temp you want the eggs to be and the bottom of the carton is the minimum temp you want the eggs to be. 98-103F is what I've found you can run a still air safely at and still hatch. If you rotate through the temps equally they will still hatch on time. Then you just flip the carton 3 times a day and you turn a dozen at a time if you've got chicken eggs or nearly twice that if you've got quail eggs.

This is sooooo cool guys! I candled tonight and saw movement in several! It's like being at the baby drs and watching the sonogram!!! LOL! I was afraid to mess with them too much for too long so I'm leaving them in there for now. Thank you so much all of you for your knowledge, patience and real help! I've learned so much and have been pointed in the right direction so many times. Thanks for the patience with dealing with all the newbies with our endless questions - sometimes a duh! Two more weeks to go now - this is great. It's like being pregnant without the stretch marks and nausea! Hey - I should probably look this up in the archives, but can you hear at some point in chick developement a heartbeat with a decent stethescope? Some of my eggs have thick shells and are partially dark, making candleing tricky.

I'm an EMT, and my house is practically decorated in stethescopes. I have no idea why I haven't thought of this! I'm gonna say I doubt it, but you may be able to hear scratching around when they start to fill the shell. I'm gonna try it!

That's a cool idea. I have a few stethoscopes around here too. IF I ever get this endeavor off the ground I may just try that.
