so i have been told how good chickens are for keeping bugs out of the garden well my squash plants are infested and getting eaten away by these growling bugs my chicken go up there eat the flowers but wont touch the dam bugs as matter fact i was drowing the bugs today one crawled on the grown toward Cherrios (my pig chciken that eats everything) what did she do when it go by her foot she steped aside and watched it walk by. these chickens that are suppose to eat thises bug these chcikens the reason why i cant use pest poision on my plants.

Are my chickens defective or just spoiled with the good food there to good to eat bugs ugh. had to vent

My chickens don't like squash bugs either (yet). They are only 5 days old so maybe there's hope! But I remember someone else on this forum mentioning that her chickens dont like the squash bugs either.

Incidentally, insecticidal soap works pretty well on those guys when they're soft shelled and won't hurt your chickens. Also, flip over the leaves and look for the eggs and squish them.

My girls eat bugs, but not all kinds. I gave them a daddy long leg spider, which they wouldn't touch! They love spiders too!

If you leave them in the garden, they will eat your produce also. I keep my garden off limits to my flock. My strawberries and tomatoes would be gone in a flash!

Got food grade diotenacious (totally spelled wrong) earth food grade. They can eat it and will kill squash bugs. Make sure its food grade though or it will kill the chickens

My chickens love bugs, all kinds of bugs from worms to even bees, but they wont touch bugs, plants, grass, corn or pellets if they know i have meal worms, they arent stupid at all!

Chickens eat a lot of types of bugs, etc but there is also certain bugs chickens will not eat. They seem to always know what they can and cannot eat. I guess Anasa tristis 'squash bug' being one they do not like. Have you ever seen a chicken eat an ant? I've never seen that happen. They would have a field day outside my house if they would eat the ants,

I've heard others here on BYC saying their chickens love eating ants! So, why will mine not touch them? It figures, LOL
