That water is so cold and the whole building smells like fish

Can't blame ya. I go up there twice a year and I've pet them before. Seriously I'm 5'8" and the wall only comes to my chest with the water just a few inches below that. Its like it's telling you to pet them!

And I do agree that area really does stink bad.

Penguins are birds and we are bird people and the bird knew it. That is why it didn't bite. However, I am a cat person, and the tigers knew it, but you won't see me going in there!!!!

Pheww! Been in there, man hate the stench!!! Did they still have all the tigers??
Miss that zoo alot... Free admission is great!!!

Lucky you cause they DO BITE...HARD

I raised some & got in between a few & their nests. Ouch, that's all I'm saying. But when they aren't taking chunks out of you, they are very sweet & affectionate.

Remember the lesson of Veruca Salt (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory)!

But they are neat, and I LOVED that exhibit at the SLZ. Last time we were down there was summer of 2009 when it was OMG hot! So hot that that Six Flags was deserted, even the water park! Anyway...We made a trip to the zoo, parked about half a mile away, melted our shoe bottoms walking to the zoo, beelined it to the penguins, and saw THE SIGN - Exhibit closed!

Too very hot to walk the rest of the zoo so we left for the Arch.

I got in trouble at a zoo, too. Why? Much more mundane than petting a penguin, let me tell you that!

I was scratching the pot bellied pig. In the children's section. Right next to the machine you put quarters in to get money to feed the children's petting zoo creatures.

Oh NO. You can't touch the pig! It might bite! It has GERMS.

(Apparently, I'm only supposed to feed the goats & the birds...though there are no signs...)

OK, thanks. (Wait til they go away and occupy themselves elsewhere, and start scratching my buddy once again.)

The poor thing was so lonesome. It was throwing a tantrum, bored as can be. Why is it that just because it's a PIG it's in an environment that's way to small without nearly enough mental stimulation? Seems it's okay because it's a PIG. It had almost nothing to do, poor thing. One toy, one blanket, and nothing else.

So long as I kept petting him, or stayed in sight, he stayed calm. Once I went out of sight he went bonkers again...

I need to go see my piggy pal soon...
