I'm going to send her pictures and see what she will do about the single comb. I think the cracked beak was due to shipping. THe pictures she showed me of that particular bird did not have any cracks.

I can understand her missing the single comb. This bird's crest is very large. She still should have made a closer inspection of combs right? It was stated on the invoice that she would prefer the price of the birds not to be discussed.

I can take a picture tonight of the cracked beak. It's just the tip of it, do cracked beaks grow back since their young?

I purchased 4 birds, they are the ones pictured in the group photo.

Still, the bird should have been closely inspected for any DQ's, and they werent. It seems to me that once breeders get too big, they get greedy.

I emailed her. I sent her pictures and we'll see what she says.

Here is her reply:

"Sorry sometimes things happen and are missed. We have no single combs in our flock so it must be fluke.
Keep me posted and sending pictures."

I think the single comb could have been missed but I think I would refund the money if i sent a bird that was sold as something beside pet quality. I just sold Cracker here on the board a beautiful black cockerel and a young black pullet that I feel like he can show for a very good price. They drove up and picked out some chicks.

Well, I went on her website (somewhere you mentioned who you purchased from), and the prices she charged are outlandish for babies that young. Shipping is also pretty high. I have a problem with people who charge a flat shipping rate when it can vary all over the board based upon the distance traveled, but I can at least understand charging a flat rate that is about the average of usual prices. Take a look at the box the chicks came in and see how much the actual mail cost was. Depending on the box that can add $10-25 to the shipping cost (if it is a new box).

Unless you signed a disclosure statement, it is up to you as to whether you want to tell the price of the birds, whether she wants you to or not. But the fact that she doesn't tells me something: she doesn't feel the price is justified.
