The brown one looked really cool. One is a little more reddish than the others.

You can never predict exactly what an Easter Egger chick will look like grown up. That's what makes them so much fun. If you wanted predictability, you got the wrong birds.

Well I'm really excited to see what they turn into. My cousin has a few and she has one that is a pretty reddish color.

What was the basic crosses used for the Easter eggers strain?

If these are from a hatchery or feed store, they aren't mixed breeds at all. It's just that hatcheries haven't selectively bred them to meet any specific breed standard. Hatchery sourced Easter Eggers are the closest thing, these days, to the originally imported blue egg laying stock from South America. Hatchery type Easter Eggers were actually used as the foundation of both the Araucana and Ameraucana breeds.
