I got my Quail yesterday!

As I mentioned in my intro thread a few days back, I planned on getting three layer Coturnix hens as pets/source of eggs for myself. Well, I got them yesterday! I currently have them in my cockatiel's cage until I can get proper accommodations in 2 weeks time. The down side is that the poor girls are very cramped. Sigh. But it's only until I can afford the new rabbit cage

Finding food's for them has been a pest, but I managed to find a local feed store with what I was looking for. I wish I could find a bag smaller than 50 pounds , LOL! Three quail and a fifty pound bag of food are going to last a long, long time Speaking of which - how do I keep such a large bag fresh? How long can I keep it before it goes bad? I have no room in my freezer, sadly.

You can get air tight feed containers. Make sure your feed stays dry, though. If it gets damp, it can grow some nasty things that can make it toxic.

Some people swear by 5 gallon containers with lids, like the kind you get at the hardware store. I use a large galvanized trash can.
