I got my Sumatra roo!

Good name! But now Im scared. I got pecked in the shin by a nosey RIR Roo..... Whats he going to be like when he is bigger?

Since we just got into our chickens i have been doing LOADS of research to make my lil feather babies happy, enough of my rambling..lol

Sumatra's come in bantam size also from what i've been reading. when i saw them i fell in love with them! If he is the same one i saw him on the eggbid auction enjoy him he's beautiful!

Big!! LOL I think the roos are always a bit bigger then the hens, sometimes a lot bigger. My Phoenix is definitely bigger then the girls, my Silky is slightly bigger and my Japanese bantam is actually a bit smaller. He's a cutie. Except he decided to stupidly roost 20ft up in a tree this past winter and now he might as be a rose comb!!! He lost all his points to frostbite!! He's not my smartest roo, but my sweetest.
I just sold what must have been a 7 lb Lakenvelder roo, along with his 3lb girl. He was a big boy, definitely bigger then the 5lb standard! Blah, Blah, Blah!!!! LOL

My friend had a RIR Roo named Peeps and he was a holy terror! He attacked people, especially kids and TORE up on hen, April a buff orp. it took her 2 years to get all her feathers back in order.

If you do not want babies look into having him caponized (SP?) or neutered essentially. I have heard it calms them down quiet a bit. The hard part is finding a vet that will do it.

Not to hijack this ones thread but I Think I got rid of him. I gave away 4 roo's today to a guy who has a farm. Lucky birdies!
