And some itty bitty buff lace polish chicks... Also my first.. I was pretty darn sure I was done with the brooder thing... but how could I possibly say no? I'm still trying to explain to the hubby how chicken math works, and how I actually have less chickens since I traded my extra fluffy standard cochins for them, but he seems a bit dense on the subject considering what a brilliant, capable man he is...

The silkies are 8 weeks old as of this past sunday, and the polish babies are around a week. I have no clue on gender, I've got a high hope for pullets (as everyone does  I can get away with keeping one ... maaaaaybe two roos, but I have a lovely friend who will happily swap extras so I'm not terribly worried) I studied every byc post on sexing silkies and begged for pointers before I chose and the polish were a breed I had been hunting for but a spontaneous find, so I'll be praying to every chicken power that be until I know for sure!

:love I'm so in love...

I'm pleased to report, after watching the silkies on the lawn for a bit, my fantastic choice of life mates has begun to catch on to the basics of chicken math! :celebrate

I have a chick that is a silkie crossed with a swedish flower hen. Only about a week old now... if I'm lucky it will be as cute as yours!!!

Do you have an pics to share? That sounds like a beautiful combination! :clap
I've got a SFH x pullet, and three silkie x silver spangled hamburg cross pullets, but I would adore a pure SFH for my flock some day!

Spangled hamburg crossed with silkie!? That sounds so cool! Would love to see those birds ☺ I'll try to get pictures of my little Muffin (that my silkie xSFH chick's name).

My mistake, one is actually a bantam cochin x Hamburg, but the twins, Fizgig and Little Foot are hamburg silkies. They only got the furry feet and black skin from their silkie mom but I'm super tempted to breed them to a silkie roo to see if I can get a more dramatic pattern with the silkie pompom awesomeness!

🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 So purty!!! Love those names! How did you come up with them? I have a silkie roo, my only roo at this time (fingers crossed the 4 chicks I've got now are mostly female!), and I'm excited to have one chick be sired by him. Here is a picture of Cardinal Kitchen, my silkie roo☺. Also found a couple pics of Muffin, although they are not very good... You'll have to pardon Mama's mating damage on her wings in the picture. The reason I have a silkie roo is bc my last roo was very rough on my girls. Cardinal K is much smaller and less rough, thank God!

Oh what a handsome fellow! White is such a beautiful colour on silkies, I absolutely adore white silkies, but I have no idea how I would keep one clean, not here anyway! :th My man would lose his marbles if I let the chickens tear up his lawn, so they live at the back part of the property, which is beautifully shaded, but also still has moist dirt where my ladies love to dig huge dust bath bowls! The birds I have with white on them are not the prettiest on excavation days.... and then there's the evergreen sap...

And that is a super cute chick! Its going to be so much fun watching your boy's baby develop :clap

Fizgig is the fluff ball dog-pet-thing of the girl gelfing from the Dark Crystal, my daughter was hoping for some more silkie attributes than she got when she named her... though my new silkie with the red highlights looks a heck ot a lot more like Fizgig from the movie that I might propose a name change

And Little Foot just happened because of all the dinosaur references we were making at the time while a batch of older chicks went through their ugly nugget-raptor in between stage

Those are great stories! The Dark Crystal used to be my favorite movie 😁 Unfortunately, and fortunately I guess, we don't have a lawn to get messed up at this point. It's mostly dirt and scrub brush. Just built a house on a 5 acre parcel in southeast Washington. 5acres and 3 trees, and lots of nothing! A blank slate I keep telling myself, lol. Lots of places for giant dust baths...
