After having to sell my ducks due to an unexpected and fast out of state relocation we were lucky enough to find a rental property on some land. 5 acres to be exact.
Today, I went out and bought some Muscovy ducklings. they are about 3 months, old 3 females and a male for sure and one maybe male but probably female. They are very pretty and except that the folks that I got them from were feeding them dog food, they appear very healthy. One of the brown is a little bigger than the others but I think its a girl. I'm not sure if they would be considered chocolate or bronze but they are pretty. They will be in the garage at night for right now until I get the henhouse straightened out. During the day, I'll keep them in a fenced in area outside of the garage. Pics aren't great but my camera died.
I am SO happy to have been able to find some Muscovy so quickly.

What ever happened to your female that got sick?

Thanks Miss Lydia. I am glad and surprised to be back so quickly. We really lucked out in finding our rental house especially since we came up here to it sight unseen.

The female recovered and went to a farm in Florida with the male and 4 of the ducklings. I was very surprised but with all of the rest and seperation she got, she seemed to be doing well when I sold her. I still have no idea what happened with her but it took almost 1 week for her to start walking again. I sold the last of them a few days before we were contacted by our current landlord up here.

I was very sad to see them go especially since some of the babies were gorgeous but I am glad that I was able to find some so quickly here.

They're beautiful!! I'm sorry you had to relocate your other ducks, but so glad you found these. That barred look is just gorgeous; I can't stop looking at them! :) :) :)

WOW - those are gorgeous ducks! Congrats on finding them, and I hope your new place works out for you!

Is that scratch feed you're feeding them? I didn't know they could have scratch feed.....I need to get more familiar with the duck feed/treat chart on here!

Wynette-It is scratch. It is not ideal but it was the only thing that I could get on short notice to give them something.. They were eating dog food at their first home

and I am hoping to get to a feed store that does not only sell medicated feed today. I just have to locate one.

Dog food isn't actually so bad for ducks...
Many dog foods are made from chicken and other whole meats which is a good source of niacin
Some are made from fish, a natural source of protein for ducks which would eat small fish in the wild.
They're high in protein and many fall in the %16-%22 protein category which is the same as chicken feed - game feed protein levels.
Most dog foods are fortified with vitamins and minerals.
Many dog foods use grains to flesh them out... Worse ones using corn and wheat and better brands using things like oats. All acceptable feed items for a duck.

But it's not really ideal. I'm just saying it's not as bad as you might think. In fact some would argue that it's better than scratch grains because scratch gives them almost no nutritional value while the dog food provides many essential nutrients.

Congrats on your new muscovy ducks! They're absolutely gorgeous.... I hope I get some as pretty as that some day!
