I got thrown over a fence to save one of my chickens

Maybe you should fix that spot, and any other gap that you can see. If it happened once, chances are that it will again. Also, keep in mind that if a chicken can fit through it, then a predator of that size can also fit through it.
We are putting chicken wire across the fence tonight.

Glad you and Gidget are well and your BF didn't have a heart attack!

Took a snap shot of my wee flock down by my mailbox (they had been ordering some stuff from Amazon lately and I figured they were waiting for the mail)

Horrified to discover that Hortense was out walking the streets like a shameless hussy!

I have a small flock, small yard, and a corner lot. But they are USUALLY self contained! I marched out there, questioned the rooster, and he squawked her back to the flock chiding her the whole time.

Too funny! :lau

Agree with the step and pull method, even a city girl hunter knows that one, but perhaps they were too tight. Seriously, don't know where you live, but if a hen can get through, lots of stuff that you don't want can get through. I was shocked at how small a space a possum needs.

That will keep in the chickens, but won't keep predators out, they can easily rip through chicken wire.
I know, but we have a black lab that is a very good flock guard. Her bark is very loud and deep, and I know a predator would run at her bark. We also lock them in the coop at night.

Aren't Labs bird dogs? How did you teach him not to go for the girls?
