I had to change dog food - $42 a bag is over the top

I have had 3, no 4 great dogs in my life... Scarlet, my Red Irish, lived to be 13 years old. She was in perfect health up until the 12th year, when she quite naturally started downhill. She ate purina puppy chow all her life, because that's what she liked. Then there was Bo-dog, my 12 pound mutt, who lived to be 22, that's right, 22 years old. He was in perfect health, except for a malignant tumor on his gum that had to be removed when he was 12 years old. He went downhill fast his 21st year. He also ate purina puppy chow all his life, augmented with pedigree canned, and his favorite, chicken. Jake disappeared last June, but he and Shylo, my current dog, both ate Beneful, supplemented with pedigree canned. I could never bring myself to pay those prices for dog food. Bottom line: All my dogs survived quite nicely on plain ole dog food...

I have two 100 lb dogs and a 70 lb dog. They eat twice a day about 3-4 cups each feeding. Plus two other smaller dogs, about 25 lbs and 10 lbs. One little one has his own food and the other - I really don't know how much he eats because he nibbles from other dog's dishes most of the time.

A 40 lb bag lasts me about a week. Nutro has those 10% free bags all the time - so I will buy whatever flavor that has that special on it. But that doesn't stretch it far.

Of course - sometimes the donkeys come on the patio and clean out everyone's bowl.

That can add up fast.

Wow, that's quite a statement. That might make a good study to see if there really IS a correlation between Purina and cancer. I wish I could remember what kind of tumor Bo-dog had. The vet only gave him a 20% chance of recovery. He lived another 10 years. He was one tough little man...

I'm fairly certian that no causality has been confirmed in regards to Purina and cancer.

There are way too many environmental and genetic variables to jump to that conclusion.

Nutro also have a buy 10 get one free program on any of their dog foods, and a breeder program that is buy 6 get one free along with a free 20lb bag of puppy food for each litter. They also give away a lot of coupons, usually $2 or $3 off.

We ahve a blue heeler and a irish setter mix that RUN, RUN, RUN everywhere they go. They have always been fed Diamond dog food and do great. IF they are working or running more than usual they get Diamond hi energy, other than that they get Diamond Maintenance. Less poop and less stink. The cheap stuff just runs through them. My 10 year old miniature pincher gets Iams mini chunks and has since I got her at 5 weeks old.

I have 5 dogs and 6 cats and feed EVO dry and use their canned as well (small spoonful in each) and have been very satisfied with it. One rescue Pom had almost no hair in areas when he came here, it was due to grain allergy. I put him on the EVO small bites with their 95%venison canned and his coat is fully grown out with no further problems. Same thing with my others, very nice, full coats and they seem to shed less as well. LOTS LESS poop..a huge plus with this many! LOL
Cats eat EVO cat food and I supplement with hairball treats and laxatone.
I get everything from K9Cuisine.com since I'm in such a rural area with no one that sells premium food close by. They ship free over 50 bucks and I order, 2-3 days later.. it's here.
I tried Science Diet, Purina Pro Plan and even Hills ID from the vet I worked for and always had someone it didn't agree with. This has been the only thing we've been able to stick with that everyone can eat. I just figure even though it's more on the front end...it has saved me $$$$ in vet bills trying to treat the allergy symptoms and switching foods every time I turn around.
