I went to the feed store and they have a whole shipment of brand new adorable baby chicks! I've been thinking I really, really want a polish and and a couple of banties! I told myself no impulse buying, so I slept on it and I still want a polish and a couple of banties...

I have three very spoiled girls at home now, a buff orpington, slw and a red sex link. I don't know how they would take to brand new chicks. Any advice on introductions? My girls at home are about 3 months old now...

Well.....if you did not get them while you were there......it might be too late now anyway, they usually go fast i would think. But anyway, mine will be 12 weeks july 4th and on the 6th i will be getting 5 banty ameraucana girls. I plan to have them in a cage for a week or two and then put the cage out in the hen house for all to get used to them for a bit.....then try the introductions when you have time to supervise.......it might not happen the first time, but that is my plan. I say if they are still available and its what you want.....get going before its too late.

yearofthedog, which feed store do you go to? As you know i'm out here in Pahrump and we have only one feed store. So my wife just stops by one on her way home just off of SR 160 as you leave L.V, its an IFA (intermountain farmers assoc.) store. Where is the one you go to located? This one is good but always looking for something better.

There's a big age difference between day olds and 3 month olds. You will need to keep the babies in a brooder with heat for the first month or so then keep them separated, like a chicken wire fence in the coop, but where they can see each other until they are close to the same size. Then you should be able to turn them in together.

thunderstruck, I go to Jones Feed on Rancho almost to Ann Road. That would be the opposite direction for you guys over the hump...and thanks for mentioning Intermountain. I always see it from the freeway and all these years I thought it was something else!

My babies moved in the big girl coop when they were 8 1/2 weeks old. There momma wanted back in to roost with the gang. She was number 3 when she went to the broody cage. She was # 7 when she moved back with only the babies under her in pecking order. Funny the adults all pretty much ignor the little ones but chased momma every chance they got.

Well, I did it. I brought home 4 little banties(no more polishes left)!! I have no idea what I've got, but they sure are cute!! Two of them are going to my mom and two for me. I've got them in the brooder now and they seem to be adjusting well so far. I have to say that those little banties sure are LOUD! I don't remember my BO, SLW and red star being even half as noisy! But, did I mention, they sure are cute?!!! I can't help but hold them...
