I had to kick some SERIOUS rooster a_ _ this morning. We had a little "come to jesus" meeting.

The bad Roo I have that's in the brand new bachelor pen had his last day of freedom to freerage yesterday afternoon. He ended up breaking the tip of is beak on something or someone. It didn't phase him. He was fighting and harassing everything in his way. I put him back in the pen early evening. I was going to put a couple more roos that I plan to cull in there with him, but that didn't work out. As soon as the other roo's feet hit the ground, he attacked. Poor guy got beat up. Head sticking through the fence trying to escape. I think if i would have left him in there I'd have a dead rooster on my hands. So I'm contemplating culling him today. He's not quite up to weight, but I need that bachelor pen for a bunch of roos that actually get along.
I have heard,"The meaner they are, the better they taste."

Did u send him to the church yet?

LOL!!!! I sold him (and all my other chickens) back in August to a friend of mine...we are getting ready to move next year to N.C.

That same rooster is still alive and kicking - seems his NDE (near death experience) set him on the straight and narrow path.

And he is still drop-dead (no pun intended, LOL!) gorgeous!

My Hubby & BIL had issues with my Silkie Roo, he never chased me, but always went after them. Hubby had enough & threw the rake at him, it hurt his leg enough that he did not roam for about 2 weeks. Cynder is the only Roo, and has become quite bossy the last 6 months. I use to be able to pick him up and hold & cuddle him. Now he is just a little fluffy TURD! :p
I warned him, he is going to push my Hubby a little too far, and he is going to have a front row seat in the clouds if he is not careful. Have two chicks I am waiting to see if one of them is a Roo or not, and them I have to deal with my two ducks that want to "Be Friends" with my New England Reds. Thank goodness my ducks don't chase anyone.

I am glad to find this thread on aggressive roosters. I have a VERY aggressive Silver Polish Roo to who's behavior I have been giving a lot of thought. My Banty Seabright is the boss but not aggressive with me. But Pepper has hurt me - literally put a knot on my calf that was there for weeks. He is only about 1-1/2 so I was hopeful he would outgrow his behavior but not sure.

I would find a home for him but I really don't want him killed; he is lovely. Am thinking of a self contained coop/run for him but then I wonder is that more cruel? Currently I use a rake and act like " the boss" and recently read to knock him off any hens he dares mount in front of me. Another member also suggests squirting in face with water bottle. I'd appreciate any thoughts on rooster coop.

Way to go Kelly! Your post made me laugh so hard!!!! I had the same problem with a roo last summer. I was walking across the yard and he came at me from behind and boxed the back of my leg. I went after him but he got away. He then came at me from behind again. This time he made the mistake of going into the run. I grabbed a stick and went in after him, closing the door behind me. We had a little come to Jesus meeting too. He no longer comes at me. It actually settled him down. Glad you didn't let him get the best of you. Way to go!
