So I'm at the local feed store buying food for the peafowl and i decide to take a look in the baby chick department. I usually don't bc I'm a sucker for animals. Starring back at me are two little turkeys. I just had to... $8 a piece is kinda pricey but since i spend alot of money there they gave me a little discount. You can always talk them down lol

Anywho here are two pics of them. Anyone know how to sex them when their young? I'm more experienced raising peafowl, chickens, ducks, and geese so i'm pretty clueless. Thanks Andy

I'm not 100% sure but i think they are the basic white turkey. They are growing pretty quick, within a week or so they sized up. Funny little boogers!

From the rounded body shape and the thick legs I would say Broad Breasted White, the price would be about right for them as well. The BBW's are the Cornish Cross of the turkey world - ment to grow fast and large. They aren't known to be long lived, they get so heavy that there legs can't support them.

I agree that they are BBW's. I have one that will be 2 yrs old in the spring, so although most don't make it past November of their first year, they can.

Turkey poults are sinfully adorable. And they get cuter as they get older, unlike chicks who tend to get uglier.

I agree with Steve though, they're BBW. Your basic, fast-growing, eating and pooping, meat making machines. They'll start eating you out of house and home real quick. And their gender doesn't matter much because they'll be ready for the freezer before you know it.
