gosh its a small picture, sorry taken with my cell phone...but he is not the golden yellow color....you can see the dark on him...think Im gonna have to get a better picture of him/her

I wish I could help. I don't know anything about BO genetics (or chicken genetics for that matter--I raise ducks), but I do know that most breeds of most animals can have mutations as well as "rogue" genes that can pop up from time to time, even in purebreds.

I don't know about your case, of course. I think he's adorable anyway.

wow, really, so that means if your banking on the golden buff colors...you can end up with a black sheep so to speak...not meaning its NOT PURE BRED, but it can have another color....

Well, I can't say for sure about that breed and those colors... but yeah, it's always possible to get a "sport" or "mutant" or some such... That's one way new colors and varieties are developed. In fact, all varieties were originally derived from some sort of "sport" of the wild type.

I really don't know for sure about yours, though, obviously. Could be there's some mix-in of other breeds/colors. It can happen easily, since hens can retain viable sperm for several weeks after a mating, so getting pure offspring can be tough if they're not segregated 24/7 for the entire breeding season.

Why don't you ask the breeder? She/he can tell you whether this is a common color variant, or if there's some possibility of genetic pollution. Approach in a non-confrontational manner, just asking, and see what you find out. Can't hurt.
