I Hatched too Many Chicks This Year! Anyone Else?

I don't think I hatched too many this year.
DH does.

But I only have 19 chickens at the moment ( and 30 eggs in the bator).
I gave away or sold 75% of my previous chicks

and I have a waiting list for some of the chicks I'm hatching.

Last year at this time I had 0 chickens. And now I'm overrun. I didn't hatch all I have either.

Going to take some to swap this weekend. Will butcher 5-6. Then hopefully the coops will be more manageable for winter.

Yep I have been hatching since LAST october, last 2 eggs are under a broody and thats IT! I swear! LOL. SOld a few, hatched a bunch of roos this summer, sold a few more, came back with a few more. Ended up scrapping the 4x6 coop and took over the double garage with a grand total of 49. We went from summer to winter here which was really a hard pill to swallow since we have had NO time getting prepped for the season. 3 wk old serama chicks are running around in the snow with their mama in 30 degree temps. It's chaos!!! But I love every minute of it

Anyone need a cockerel or 5!?

Just wait. You'll see soon enough how easy it is to become a "hatch-o-holic." It's not an easy thing to overcome once you're infected. LOL

Hmmm, let's see....my bators (plural) have been running steady for the past 13 months. I'm "planning" to unplug them at the end of November and give them a rest, but not sure if my will power's up to it.

You can do it! The first step is to admit you have a problem! LOL I would be in real trouble if I lived in Florida, as the weather would allow me to keep hatching, and I wouldn't have to worry about raising chicks in the cold.

LOL, it does actually get a little too cold in Jan/Feb. I had a whole bunch of chicks in the house last year...I promised DH I wouldn't do that again!

I hatched 4 batches of 22 chicks trying out the wine chiller/incubator conversion. Got rid of the first 3 batches within a few minutes of posting on Craigslist. The last batch, seemed no one wanted, so I decided to keep them and add them to my own flock.

I look at it like this, next spring when everybody is looking chicks my fall pullets will be laying age. More eggs for the new Dickey incubator and hatcher I just got.
