Thanks to one chicken (Carlotta Cluck) who moved in from my neighbors coop last June I now have 14 wretched chickens.. I've become the United Nations of chicken rescue. Give me your spent, plucked, broody old hen who hates people... To old and tuff to eat I might add.. GRRRR
What do you end up with after building a covered chicken yard and custom bamboo coop? In July, the heat in Florida ain't no fun. Chicken poop and LOTS of it. They might gift you with a egg if the treats are worthy of a reward from them. Yard scratching, dusting hole diggers that they are and poop. They stalk us for treats.. I have become prey for the chickens.
And then, they do these stupid chicken dances when they see us. My 4 young Red Stars fly or dig out to escort us to the coop carrying the red pail with treats. Vultures I tell you.. And I can spend hours messing with those dumb birds. Some of my flock had been abandoned and left to die in a coop with no feed and water when there owners had to move. I've watch the older hens gain weight and become healthier. It's been a fun journey!
This website and all of the wealth of information has been great. During Covid-19 people are having to make sacrifices. I don't judge. I'm glad I am stable enough to have a place for the darling little poop machines...
My one piece of advice is the following, {When you start to design and layout what your going to build and fence off for your chickens, just DOUBLE it. Trust me there will be more chickens.}
Be safe and thank you,

Feels to me like you are ready for more chickens!

It sound's like you are getting ready to build a bigger coop.
Stop that !!!! I
I will admit that I am going to fence a second free range yard so I can let the soil rest and possibly grow a blade of grass in the original free range yard.
This morning I was having my morning coffee with the girls and a darn wild turkey hen flew in for some free breakfast. She stayed long after my coffee was gone.. Doesn't seem to be scared of people...
If only a Polish hen would fly in my coop!!!!
