Recently there has been a fox around and so far he has taken 4 chickens, including a beautiful rooster and two frizzles. This one is very cheeky and very hard to get a shot at, on Monday my neighbour took a shot at it and it moved just at the wrong time, so he hit some metal panelling behind the fox:he He has been stalking around the yard since and my chickens have been on full lock down. Since the dominant rooster was taken an old leghorn hen has taken to being head chicken and try to roost up atop the fence we use for the run. She is the only one who can get up there and has no interest in getting out, but it still a problem.. Have any of you had problematic predators that will not go away?

I'm in the process of building my run now. The other day I seen a fox checking it out. Not a big deal as no chickens yet.
This fox has been living under a neighbor's barn for yrs. Has 4-6 pups every year. She's well know in the area.
I plan on having a highly varmint proof coop and run, but if she becomes a problem, I will SSS.

I hate foxes, too. They are public enemy #1 here. I also had a very sly fox that always managed to avoid my good aim. Hence why he was so old (you could tell by the grey in his face). I called him "Methuselah". For at least 3 straight years he slaughtered my neighbor's free range chickens. I added hot wire around my run and he soon stopped trying to get my chickens, but I would still see him run through my property to get to the neighbor's. My neighbor finally shot him last summer after I told him Methuselah's route and the time he would go through. Methuselah was always good at dodging a bullet but his downfall was his strict timing on his pattern.

Some foxes are easy to catch/kill. I’ve caught some in as little as a few hours and others took over 2 months. Some of them can be absolutely maddening!
