I HATE my PO.... ** update page 3**

When I have had damaged air-cells I also do not turn for the first few days. I just had a shipment of eggs come in a few days ago with 4 ruptured cells and 12 loosened cells. I am having better success this way than when I have started turning right from the start in a similar situation last year. While far from being scientific, I do think it does help.

correct me if im wrong, but when you have a broken air cell it is cause by the chalazae becoming sperated from the inner cell membrane, which it in turn can not repair itself. so once damaged its damaged for good, but the chick can still grow and possibly hatch

High lite the green and it darkens the background and chages the green to white LOL works

Sorry had to edit forgot to add what I was origanally posting for LOL

Your post office received that package damaged and that is what received this already damaged stamp means, not that the person who sent it to you had sent it damaged. But they should of held that mail, everyone has a boss so I would be back to that post office and talk to a superviser with the origanal person you asked to hold your mail there as well. That way the person you told to hold the mail will have to explain who he passed that message on to and how it failed, might help with your next shipment. And remember no matter how mad you are kill them with kindness that way at least they will lose one nights sleep over it LOL

The postal service has a minimum of three days hold on mail. Some postmasters will make exceptions for this but if you were only asking for a one day hold and didn't fill out a form it's very easy for the carrier to mistakenly carry the mail out. Now that doesn't excuse the condition your package arrived in. Those are some lucky eggs.

Hopefully those air cells will be intact and you'll have a bunch of little fuzzies soon.

A broken air cell can cause several different problems and the chalazae may or may not become seperated from the membrane. Whether it is seperated or not is actually irrelevant and no one is trying to repair anything. By keeping the egg upright you are allowing the air bubbles to remain up inside the air-cell and away from the embryo. The theory is that it gives the chick a better chance of developing to a stage where the presence of an air bubble will be less potentially damaging.

I put my hold in writing both times and handed it to the same person both times. When she told us that there was no hold on the mail, she asked who took the form and we all said "YOU!" at the same time. She was like "Uh....." and took the second form. I would almost bet my life that they were there and didn't want to hand them to us all smashed like that. I will definitely be there Mon am with my best "kill them with kindness" face on.

Sounds like you did every thing right on your side. They just pure and simple messed up. Definately go in and let them know nicely this was their fault. Also have in mind how you'd like this resolved and don't be afraid to ask for it.

the air cell will stay at the top reguardless of being in a turner turning or not...air will always rise to the top..so just sitting there or moving in a turner will make no difference. if the chalazae is broken absorbtion may be affected.

I don't think you are grasping what it is I am saying. If the egg is set large end up, the air bubble will rise to the top, where the air cell is supposed to be. At that point, the membrane, while ruptured, is still present and can provide some sort of protection. That is the reason I do what I do. I was told about that trick from a few long term breeders., and have had better results when I did so. If you do not want to do it, then by all means don't do it. I am also confused about your comment regarding the chalazae and absorption. The chalazae serves to help hold the yolk centered in the egg. It does not function in absorption of nutrients.
