I hate my roo!

Go onto the meat bird forum. There you will find out how to kill and process chickens, start to finish. I had to kill a meat chicken one day when everyone was out of town. I tied his legs together, hung him up at a convenient height and lopped off his head with a LARGE pair of pruning shears. The deed was done before either me or the chicken quite knew what was happening. The key is to just do it and not think about it. Now I use a razor blade but the shears were great for a start. By the way, I am about the biggest wuss when it comes to this sort of thing you are ever likely to meet. If I can do it anybody can.

I have a stupid bantam OEG rooster in my small flock of 5. In a period of 2 days he ripped a huge hole in my leg with his spur and pecked me in the stomach and gave my a bruise through my shirt! BUT, I need him for breeding purposes.

Truer words were never spoken. The anticipation is far worse than just just doing it.

I too got real sick of my roo! I kept him for over a year becausse of the babies he was producing and when I was ready to let go-he made the decision very easy. I went to let them freerange ans he walloped me bad! Within secinds I pinned him down grabbed his legs-walked him to the chopping block and did the deed myself-from flog to finish 3 minutes! peace and quietness reigned over the land-for a few days:) Im sorry your in that boat!

ugh. My husband said he'd take care of it. He is a hunter, and his dad used to butcher chickens as a child and young man, so.... You're right, the anticipation is killing me. stupid bird. I'll keep you posted. I think I'll wait for another roo- I have four 5 week old EE's. I may wait to see if one of them (pary only ONE, LOL) is a roo. Thank all of you- it's really been traumatic for me and the kids. My boys won't even go in the barn. And they love to get the eggs...

My two Banty OE roosters, my ameracuna cross (a huge rooster) and my D'Uccle Banty rooster are all nice boys but my little, tiny Silver Seabright rooster tries to line up and have a go at me often. I almost always have a lightweight leaf rake in my hands and he was scooped aside once with the tines pointing away from him. Now he will come at me, but hesitate when he is two or three feet away and just give me the rooster glare. He grabbed and flung a three day old chick the other day that the momma had out in the run so he got locked up. If he ever actually gets to me, or flings another chick...locked up in a separate pen is going to be his lot in life. No more roaming the yard with his two wives.
