I HATE snakes and need best advise on how to keep them away from coop

That's a good question and what happens if the chic's get into the sulfur? I would put it out away from them but I will eventually train them to go in and out of the coop when I'm home. I know, well I guess they would not eat the moth balls but how about the snake away and sulfur??

I would not use any poisons or anything like that. Unless you live in a area with pythons and boa the chances are that the smell the chicks and investigate i find loads of mice or rats that keep them there. So rather set up mice traps. Also don't kill any snake you find.

You could run a line of crush oyster shells around the property line. The crush shells hurt their tender belly. Just update it now and then. By the way I live in UP of MI because there are no poison snakes or gators or crocs here LOL or Grizzlies LOL just big old black bears who sneak up on ya LOL.

My personal prefference: a 22. loaded with snake shot. and they are right about the rodents!

I know what you mean! I don't mind them from a distance, but I don't want them near me. We had to dispatch a cooperhead this morning that was in our front yard.

Thank heavens it didn't bite one of my kids and thank heavens my DH was home to take care of it!

My mom swears by Snake Away. I will be getting some A.S.A.P.! You sprinkle it around your premises and the snakes are suppose to stay away. I will be putting it around my coop.

the black snakes i leave alone they keep rattlers away have a few around my yard but they dont bother me or my chickens and keep the rattlers away so they can stay

we also have copperheads!...and i'm glad someone asked this question!...i've been fretting about it all spring...one killed my dog a few years back, and i've never been really sure what to use to keep them away..i had also heard about moth balls..but was afraid to use them in case one of my pets got into them..so snake away is good?..it really works?..its safe for other animals?..dogs...goats...pigs?..thanks for any help..Wendy
