I hate to say it, but the hybrids have it!

My golden comet is very docile and not at all aggressive (my BRs are the bullies.) She began laying at about 18weeks and has been laying an egg nearly every day for about 2 weeks (missed one day so far.) Nice large darkish-brown eggs , one jumbo egg. Of my six hens, all the same age, the GC began laying first, one BR began laying this week (first good egg today, pullet eggs 4 other days.) One other is close, three are not. I like all my girls... they are all so different!

Where did you two get your golden Comets from? Cackle? I prefer to get them from Cackle or Ideal if I end up not likeing the ones I make myself with my RIW hens and a BO and RIR roo.

I think if you use the BOxRIW you'll definatly get the more buff/ white than the redder/white combo.

A good friend deals with Mt Healthy Hatchery in southern Ohio for his Golden Comets, I got a few from him from his last batch and they are real nice hens. He's very happy with their service and the birds he's gotten there though I usually prefer Meyers Hatchery in Central Oh, Meyers have sex links named 'Black Star' and 'Golden Buffs'. I'm told the Black Stars they sell are excellent birds but I don't have direct experience with them.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too but, I'm afraid the buff cross won't lay as good since buffs don't lay as good as RIRs.

I got these 3 from Tractor Supply as 1 day old chicks. They did not know the breed but gave me the name of the hatchery and I called Mt. Healthy Hatchery and found that they are Hubbard Golden Comets

My hybrids started laying at 17 weeks and haven't missed a click since. Got them at the local lumber/feed store. They have them every spring and said they are very popular. Docile and even trainable, to a degree.

I just posted on the How many eggs thread, thought I'd go ahead and post it here also.

All 5 of my 7 mo. old GSLs have laid 5/5 for 7 days in row this past week.

Go ahead on girls.
