I have 10 hens and 1 rooster. Three of the hens have feather loss on their back. Is it from the rooster?

:welcomeYes it's the Rooster and you'll want to put something like blue kote on it so that other opportunist hens don't see the bright pink and peck it to bloody. If that happens you have to separate them. Everyone has different processes and tolerances for Roosters. Mine is pretty high bar. If they do that or any other behaviors that I don't prefer, they do to drive through processing....

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

All roosters have their favorites.
Is your guy actually a rooster or still a cockerel? If he's still young, he needs to gain experience to get better at mating. You will also want to keep an eye on his claws and spurs and trim them regularly.

Hi, you can use chicken saddles or aprons to protect your hens backs. Amazon sells them or if you're handy with sewing, you can make them.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

I'd try the saddles and trimming the nails ideas posted above. I would also be sure they are on a high-protein feed like all flock, with oyster shell in a separate dish for the hens. The higher protein helps them grow feathers faster.

We're glad you're here!
