I've got two chickens. Maggie is a year old hen who eats Purina Layena. The new mysterious, wandering pullet (Isabella Bird) was found on someone's lawn in a residential area. She's eating Purina Medicated Start and Grow. I've kept her quarantined for a month and she's doing great and I've been excited about them getting to live together but can't figure out the feeding thing. I have no way of knowing her exact age for sure - but people who responded to her photo think she's around 3 months old. She's still doing that wacky high pitched squeaky voice- which is the cutest thing. I've been letting them hang out together in the day in a little pen and they really like each other- and then I've been putting them in together at night.

I know I can just wait 3 months or so - but was wondering if you guys had any ideas? (I wouldn't feel comfortable free ranging them around here (Nashville) cause there are hawks around)

Here's my husband and Isabella Bird in a photo I call "Cluck Dynasty" He's really not as mean as he looks, he's a drummer. HA

Lightchick, i KNOW!! HA!! there's something a little buzzard about her.

I'm pretty sure that the difference between starter/grower vs Layer is the protein and calcium levels. So you can just put the older hen on the grower feed and make sure she has calcium(such as oyster shell) available and let them be together.

Remember they are flock animals so they will be happier in a group than alone.

I agree with that too.
