Lisa I'm excited for you!!!! This little guy hatched at 20 days, maybe sooner. Eggs were laid from August 3-7, and I picked them up on the 7 for my hen to lay on. I've got 2 more eggs out of 7 eggs that have cracks in them. And mom said she could hear tapping in one of the eggs. Lisa do know anything about silkie babies? Heard that one way to find out the sex is that only male silkies have 4 toes, but may have 5, while females only have 5. Have you heard of that?

Well i never heard of a silkie roo having four toes but the way i sex mine is by the wings, if its growing two sets of wings its a female and if the wings are even its male. This is done the first three days of life. This works pretty good for me so far.

So fun and totally cute. I let my silkie hens hatch some random fertile eggs this past spring and just let nature take it's course. The mamas did their thing and they were all healthy and happy. I did switch them to medicated food and used a smaller watering bottle in the coop but thats about it.

The thing that I didn't understand is how they had them all outside on day two in 40 degree weather.

Why is it that if we incubate or get chicks in the mail we have to keep them at a certain temperature for weeks yet these little darlings we out all day when it was so chilly.
