I HAVE A BABY Update...;(

yay!! congrats on your new babies!! it cant hurt to candle the rest of them... when was the 21st day?
The 21st was on the 30th of June.

Sad news, I lost all of them except the one that was born last Sunday. They died on Tuesday. I don't have a reason why, maybe the hot weather got to them. I just don't know.

I was so upset to see them dead. It just doesn't make sense to me at all. There was no warning or anything.

Then I had one hatch out yesterday and someone killed it overnight in the coop.

This is without momma sitting on them.

I'm so sorry to hear that!! The worst is when you have no explanation for what happened. Keep your head up, and try to remember that everything happens for a reason. You have my sympathy!!

I went out to the coop a little bit ago and I have a chick! I was really surprised. I have been checking the eggs to see if there were any pips, I guess I missed this one!

Sorry, but mom isn't getting this one. I wish I would of kept the other one too.

Oh well, live and learn. I'll know next time.

The one baby that momma had is gone. I'm guessing that one of the barn cats got it.

I was so hoping that she was a good mother. She acted like it all the time. She had her/him for a week and a day. It was so cute a little buffer color chick and mom being a black color was so cute together.

I'm sitting here crying cuz, I can here the one in the house chirping. I've never raised babies before and I'm kinda freaked out right now.

I am so sorry I can sympathize
my idiot dog got 2 chicks over the weekend ( one wasnt her fault, my daughter let the chicks out of the coop and they ran right into her she was chained to a tree) and killed a pair of baby squirrels we were raising, this AM (while I was out feeding the chicks)--

I was so sad all day the baby squirrels were the worst. And I cant even be angry with the dog its a Terrier its what they do- they are ratters and completely prey driven-

I dont know what to do with the dog... Just keep her forever chained ... and out of the house (the squirrels were in my bedroom!)

Is just such a helpless frustrating feeling when you put so much feeling and time in to these fragile little creatures.... and sometimes it just doesnt work out... .... despite your best efforts!

Broody momma could of ate the one chick. My broody ate two chicks. It was awful! This happened 2 weeks ago. Out of 7 viable eggs, 3 made it. It was heartbreaking! I didn't keep the baby eating broody either. I was too angry she ate her young.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I fully understand your grief. I just went through this myself. Next time I will incubate and hand raise them. I love raising chicks! I'm on my 4th round, third time integrating in a year if I get any females.
