I have been watching her for a few days and have tried to break her broodiness. It hasn't worked. If I take her off the nest and take her to food, she will eat like there's no tomorrow. I haven't seen her drink though. I decided today that I would set her up with some eggs in the brooder tank. She would be with the flock, but seperate, so I can have food and water in with her. Unfortunately, I think I have another broody. My brooder tank is 5 ft in diameter. It is a stock tank. DH hung an old heavy gate over it for a lid. Would it be possible for me to put both hens in the tank? Will they leave each other alone?
The first one hasn't laid for awhile. She's sitting on golf balls. The second, I'm not sure. These are my first chickens so I really don't know what I'm doing. I know it's pretty cold to be hatching (-17*) this am. The barn is not heated, but it was 18* in there this am. Now it's up to 20*. I'm just using my own mutt eggs as an experiment, but I don't want to lose my hens either. I have another bigger brooder box that DH built for me, but the turkey hens are laying their eggs in there. They can't seem to use the big dogloo I have set up for them.
Do I dare put the hens together or will that just be disaster? I noticed today, the first broody was not liked by a few of the hens AND the tom turkey. What's up with that?
Thanks for your input. I learn so much from all of you.
