I have a broody coturnix :D Pics, post #2

I have a little egg collector myself but I haven't seen her sit on anything.

It is really quite comical to watch her roll the eggs from one side of the pen to her little nest on the other side of the pen. The first time I saw her do this I thought that she had found a small rock that she was playing with. I do not have to scour the pen looking for eggs. All I have to do is check the nest and that is were all the eggs are.

Good luck with your little girl. Keep us posted on how things turn out.

Shelley Have You Thought Of Taking Hardware Cloth And Making A 3 Sided Inclosure To Keep Her Penned Up And The Others Away? She's Already In The Corner, Just Make 2 Sides And A Top Screen And Fasten It To Your Walls--- That Would Give Her Segregation From The Crowd And Yet Not Upset Her With Relocating. And Perhaps Keep Her From Snatching More Eggs...

Yeah, that's pretty much the plan, I just have to figure out how to do it

I wonder if dad still has any staples in his staple gun?

This one is definitely broody, she hasn't moved from that spot all day that I've seen. Everytime I've went to check on her she's been in that corner. She didn't even move when I took her 'collection' from around her, she just growled at me

That's cool. I have had some that went broody but they never had enough patience to sit for the that long. She won't like being moved. I had to move the others birds in my pen instead so that she can have some peace. You will probably find out by now that the poo from a broody quail is "oh my goodnesss!!! that really stinks".

You will also find that the eggs will take a little longer to hatch, maybe 2 to 3 days longer as she can hop off quite regularly.

Good luck. oh you might want to take the chicks if they away too when they hatch as they are not very good at staying with the mother to stay warm if it is cold there

Not even close to being cold here right now, I think it was 85 today!

I had a scare yesterday, mama was off the nest about all day from what I could tell. But apparently she only had 3 or 4 eggs that she'd been sitting on, so I took those and gave her some new ones. For now I've got her closed-in in the enclosed portion of the pen, I've got a box in the doorway so the others can still get in to lay their eggs

She now has 5 eggs, and so far, so good it seems. Fingers crossed that she sticks with it!

Well I went out to check on her today, and she was once again off the nest. Her eggs were scattered about pretty good, so I gathered them up and put them in a makeshift nest box. Obviously she didn't go back to the nest, I kinda figured she wouldn't, but thought I'd at least try it. So this evening I took the eggs from her and opened her side back up so she can mingle with the rest of the birds. Hopefully she'll kick this habit soon and get back to business.

Kinda sucks, I'd love to have a coturnix hatch eggs
