I have a Broody RIR!!!!! Update pics pg3 & pg5

Curious (and bear with me i'm very new to chicken world) but why would you not want a golden comet or other hybrid to hatch their eggs? I'm sure it has to do with genetics but if someone can give me a 2nd grade brief explanation I'd be mighty grateful.

I think it may be personal preference but could be that they make less reliable moms. Just before this one went broody I had one of my mystery hens ( I think is a Golden Comet/Red Sexlink) take a shot at it. She stoped laying for about 8 days, but never really commited to sitting on the nest. I had put her in a large dog crate and every time I walked into the barn she jumped off the nest and fussed at me to let her out. She ended up laying again so I let her out and she has not yet shown any signs of wanting to brood agian. As far as the eggs go as long as you don't mind mutt chickens they should hatch just fine.

No roo would be a problem. I have lots of chicks that came from my hybrids and no they don't breed true. I hatched them mostly for meat and need a few more pullets to try and keep up with the egg demand around here so was not worried about what I ended up with.

Yeah, I've done that too, hatched whatever I had, for more layers, and ate the extra roos. About to do it again, too, I have 3 hens that have gone broody in the last 3 days.

The person w/the GC's said she didn't want to hatch the hybrids, even if she'd had a roo.

They started hatching last night!

I know she has at least 3 under her. I expect them to keep hatching for at least a day more since the eggs went under her over a few days. I did manage to get a few pics.
