Bulk chicken feed will help but get large lidded barrels for them. You might face moldy food issues - several in the South have. I'd get that vet friend to look at them before buying/moving them. ALso, of course, sanitizing the equipment etc is very important. We are using and enjoying oxine for the sanitizing.
