Not sure if it's early or if I miscounted. I set the eggs on May 18th (afternoon) and counted the 19th as Day One. So, I was figuring on tomorrow being hatch day. I have six banty eggs and two regular eggs under this broody. This first to hatch looks like one of the regular chicks. Way to big to be one of the bantams. I'm excited. Heard the peeping when I went down to tend them this morning. Didn't want to disturb the broody by looking under her and figured I only heard one. Now we wait.
Mine nearly always hatch a day early if the incubation went well. Now I start to worry if they DON'T hatch a day early. The last few I left alone until day 21 were dead in their shells. I've decided on this next hatch in the incubator that I'll check them on day 20 and assist if needed. I have a broody with chicks due today, but she had at least 5 of 12 hatched when I got home last night
I have had some eggs hatch on day 19. I set the eggs for hatching the night before and the next morning I heard peeping in the incubator and sure enough there was a chick and several pips and some zipped. SURPRISE!!!
The first chick is a regular Buff Orpington. Another hatched later, and is an Americauna. The rest (6 Golden Campine bantam eggs) have not hatched yet. This morning I heard peeping coming from the other broody's nest. She also has one regular Buff Orpington chick plus a Barred Rock cross bantam chick. This broody also has 6 Golden Campine bantam eggs under her and one more BR cross bantam egg. I still have my fingers crossed, but am resigned that the Golden Campine eggs might not hatch since they were shipped eggs.

Okay, hatching all done. The second broody now has one more BR cross chick. NONE of the shipped eggs hatched. We cracked them open and nothing but pinkish yolk fluid. Would we have been able to even tell if they were fertile to begin with?
So disappointed, but kind of figured this would happen. Anyway, at least my broodies have something to show for their time spent on the nest in this heat.
