I have a decision to make, input would be appreciated

I suppose culling will become a bit easier as time goes on!? This morning's culling was our first, and it was hard. I hope not to have to do it again at all, but that's not realistic. As long as everyone gets along, we'll keep both roos.

I do appreciate everyone's thoughts on this! BYC has been such a help to me. A great community...

If the two of them aren't chasing your hens around too much and the fighting between the two roosters doesn't get too bad, I'd keep them both. There will continue to be occasional challenges as the non-dominant one tries every now and again to take over. They may just be brief skirmishes, or outright battles. Only time will tell. At 6 months, their personalities are just developing.

Culling does get easier over time. I won't say that it's easy. Just easier. As with everything in life, the more experienced you get, the more comfortable you will be with it.

Today was the calmest day for the flock in over a week. So the result justified the means, and that makes me happy.

Thanks to all who commented (we had decided to cull another over the weekend just to get it over with) the remaining 2 roos are doing fine so far. I'm sure it could change tomorrow, but for now, all is well.

You spared a life with your thoughtful replies, and I am grateful for your wisdom!

What a difference 5 days makes...

Hubby's brother who has a small flock stopped by today and asked it we still had a rooster we would part with. (I put out the word last week about the extra roos, and couldn't get any takers.) He lost his only roo yesterday, so he wanted to take us up on the offer of a free one. He has 4 hens who are over a year old. My first thought was "I wish this had happened a week ago and we could spared the aggressive roo." Am I wrong in thinking that the older hens would have put in his place very quickly? Hubby and his brother are both questioning this reasoning of mine... that the older, established hens would have taken the 6 month old roo down several notches and taught him some manners?

If I'm wrong, I want to know for future reference. So please give me your opinion. Please...

Edited to add; he was not at all aggressive to humans, just to the other pullets of the same age.
