Ok, my so called double yolker was just a massive, and I mean massive, chick that didn't make it past pipping. Couldn't turn, was so squashed that when I tried to assist, it still burst open the shell even though it was dead. Too much internal pressure, I guess.
Ah well, we live and learn.
Will NOT be incubating any more huge eggs like that again.
It was the size of a week old chick, crammed into one egg. What I must have seen candlign was one huge chick spread over teh one side of the egg and normal veining, if youe know what I mean. Maybe when I candled it was flexing both wings independantly. Anyway, it was a monster. It's wrapped up and in the bin, if anyone was wondering, I have a 2 yr old at home and need to be pretty careful what she sees. Mind you, she took one from the incubator this morning, put it in the brooder and also added a coffee cup (they were thirsty), a baseball cap, a top from an egg carton, and a small bowl with puffed rice in (they were hungry) - you have to love curious and helpful toddlers!!! Thay needed toys. She said so.
Sorry to hear it passed!
I hatched out a gigantic egg a few weeks ago, got 1 BO mix who was huge.I have another on day 18 and checked it today and it appears to be sooo ready!
