I have a HUGE problem.

Week after next, i have some eggs that go into lockdown. Problem is, I wont be there to actually put them in lockdown. Nor will i be there to remove the chicks and adjust things. So I was thinking maybe I can take them with me, incubator and all. The place im going is 47 minutes away. Would they be able to survive all the jostling and going without power for that log before lockdown? I really don't want them to quit on me, and i only have that option.

May I ask why you won’t be able to be there.. or make a quick trip back to do it.

If you wrap the incubator in a blanket and secure it they may be ok, but it’s a risk and a chance you will have to decide to take.

You can put them on lockdown a few days early without any issues. But would you be able to take them out of the incubator within two days after hatch. They will be fine without food for two to three days after hatching

Sometimes things happen and all we can do is our best.

Here's what I'd do right before leaving:

remove the incubator lid/top.

cover the eggs with something to reduce vibrations and jostling-bubble wrap, a towel, a soft blanket-whatever was available. If there's just a few eggs wrap them individually in bubble wrap.

let the incubator heat up again.

wrap the whole incubator in some kind of insulating material.

load into the car and go as quickly and safely as I could.

I once brought a broody hen with 5 eggs from WI to TN. One egg broke on the way and the other four hatched.

You have a good chance of success; just don't let the eggs cool any longer than absolutely necessary.

GOOD LUCK!
