I have a problem...isn't that the first step?

CUTE!

I don't know how you can look at one of those cute faces and say "This one will make some good nuggets!" You must have nerve!

Sorry If I come across mean but I am a vegetarian and my chickens are strictly pets and egg layers only. I couldn't imagine eating one of my chickens.

I might consider a home-made from scratch chicken dinner but I'm too much of a wimp!

Hello, My name is The Chicken People...I too am addicted to hatching/ buying eggs/ chicks! I made it through the winter with only nine laying hens and well due to my addiction I currently have 37 chickens at various different ages and seven Turkey eggs in the bator! DH needs to build a bigger coop!

Really though, I don't have a problem. Oh wait, yes I do .... my problem is:
I need more coops!

Love it. That is my problem too!!! And more runs if I need to breed specific kinds, maybe a banty run and coop just because and and and and. Gloria Jean

This is where my problem comes in. We have lots of acreage, and my husband is a carpenter by trade. He will build me anything I want, as big as I want. We even had the yard (the entire thing) tilled over to get rid of the high weeds, just so a raccoon or bobcat couldn't hide in it. My Dh even bought some trees to plant near the coops and runs to add shade. He is my enabler. My daughters are my fellow addicts...we are just loving all these feathery cutie pies. I am so glad my kids love animals as much as I do. It really makes for some great family time.

Now wish me luck. We are going to TSC today for an electric fence. My Dh wants to keep the raccoons out. The older babies could most likely head outside already. It is 84 degrees here. Hopefully all those fuzzy butts are gone and the bins are empty. Even the workers at the store laugh when I go in. They must think we are the crazy chicken people.

Its ok. This is the first time we had chickens. We didn't know that 2 of them were cornish x. We thought they were White Cornish or white leghorn. We will try and see what they are like, but I am sure we won't purposely buy them again. We are, just as attached to our chicks, as you are. If we can't do it, my neighbor will take them. He has all kinds of animals. He comes to visit our chicks all the time. He even brought his wife over to play with the ducks.

Well, I only have 3 baby fuzzy butts at this point...but I need more!

My girls will be 2 weeks old on April 7 and I can't believe how much they have grown. I was out today looking at sheds to get an idea of how I can build a large coop with windows and lots of space inside...so I can have lots of chickens.
ya.gif
My DH just thinks I'm crazy, but he has stopped putting up a fight and has agreed to help me with my addiction. What an enabler.

My biggest dilemma is trying to figure out how my DH and I can build a chicken mansion with limited building skills because all of the chicken coops that are available locally are tiny. Seriously, my chickens deserve to live in a mansion with extra space to stretch out and play. Not to mention a huge run with ample space to run and have fun in any weather. I figure I better do it grand the first time so that I don't have to "expand" later as my "family" grows...as I am absolutely sure it will.

Here are my 3 little babies. The 2 black girls are Barred Plymouth Rocks and the other girl is supposedly an Ameraucana. I figure she is probably an Easter Egger and not a true Ameraucana, but I don't care. She's gorgeous and sweet regardless of what "type" of chicken she is.

I actually had them outside while I was weeding my garden beds today and they had a blast. They were chasing each other around the yard trying to steal "treats" from each other. Worms, bugs, and any other tidbit they could find in the dirt. Thank goodness I bought grit so that they can enjoy their special "treats". I wish I had taken pictures, but sadly I didn't.

Does anyone have an opinion on what my little girl truly is? I don't really care, I'm just curious.

Hello, my name is Christine and I am a Chick-a-holic!

It started out innocently enough. My DH wanted chicks and I didn't. I wasn't too keen on the idea of "dirty" birds running around my yard, pooping everywhere. Well, he decided we were going to try it and see what happened and if nothing else, we would have some meat. He went to our local feed store and got a RIR, BR, 2 EE's, and a Buff Orphington. They were sooooo cute!
love.gif
Then my son and daughter wanted to pick out their own, so back to the feed store we went and got 2 more; another RIR and a BSL.

We were good with those 7 for a while. Then, I was at the store picking up shavings and they had some leftovers from a delivery the week before and I spotted a SLW and a Golden Hamburg. I called the DH from there, took a pic and sent him and got the OK to bring them home. (So much for not wanting birds!)

THEN, in the fall I was there again getting shavings and saw a cage with fuzzy butts. They had fuzzy feet too and my daughter was in love!!! We got 2 and brought them home. One turned out to be a roo and he went on the block (since even though we live in a rural area, we do have a neighbor and I didn't want to make him mad)

So here it is CHICK DAYS again, YAY!! DH and I ordered chicks this year to get what we wanted. That worked well until I went (alone, seems that is worse than having DH and the kids along) to pick up our first order. We had 2 Jersey Giants and 2 GSL's on order. Got them and also came home with 2 Buff Brahmas. Sent a pic to DH at work and he sends back "Wait, there are 6 in there! Where did the other 2 come from?!" Dang it, I thought I would be able to seak them past
fl.gif
The next week was the order of our 5 EE's and I managed to only come home with them (not sure how
idunno.gif
)

Then it gets worse. We stop on the way to see my Grandparents, "just to see what they got in this week". BIG mistake! We came home that day with a Silkie and a Frizzle.
yippiechickie.gif

THEN, the next week, I run over to see what they got for "Haterchy Choice" pullets. I ended up coming home with another Silkie and 2 SLW! (OH, by this point I think Hubby knows I have a problem
hide.gif
)

Call TSC to see what they have (hubby did this) and they have meat birds. DH wants to do meat birds, so we run up there and get six of those. Then, we stop at another feed store on the way home and buy 6 of the ones they have!

DH is an enabler! Not once has he said "Don't you think we have enough?" Now he says, what should I make the new coop to look like and how big?!
jumpy.gif

So, now we have Zebra, Skunk, Lola, Silver, Goldie, Polly, Amber, Ariel, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Tiana, Cleopatra, Pip, Leia, Amidala, Buttercup, Frizz, Lacie, Wynn and Giselle. (My daughter likes Princesses, she's 5).

D.gif

So, here I am and admitting it, so that is the first step to recovery, right? Right?!

P.S. Did I mention we are getting ducks on Friday?!?!? 10 of them!!!
