i have a question about drowning a chick in an egg

Lets say that you have chicken eggs in a bator (i dont) and the humidity is in the 70's the whole time. from what ive heard.... a chick will drown when it pips through the membrane (is that right?).... well, what if on day 18, you poked a small hole in the top and tried to drain any water that might have built up do to humidity? could you do that, then wrap the egg in a wet paper towel? i want to try this sometime.... maybe we could save some chicks this way?
has anyone done this or thought about this?

i understand there are risks of bacteria, germs etc....

I was wondering the same thing. i should think as long as you don't poke through the membrane the risk of infection is not as high as if you did. Also, when I saw the "how it's made' video, that hatchery pokes a hole in the egg on day 18 to "vaccinate" and they say they still get like a 90+% hatch(don't remember the actual #)

So I don't see why you couldn't do this.
