Ok my pekin is getting huge fast, his claws are getting long and they are sharp, do u trim those?

Some do. I own Muscovy, pretty sure they win the prize for nails, heck at only a few days old they are like little needles. I don't trim mine, i have thought about it a few times but they ended up snapping off and generally seem ok with the lengthy nature of them, they go on the partially paved and gravel drive so i think that is buffing them down a touch lol

If you decide too make sure, you have sharp clippers and quick stop(it's a bleed blocker)

I would not recommend nail clipping. You can easily injure them when you clip to near at the toe and hit a blood vessel.

The claws of pekins are hardly sharp enough to hurt anybody, just small scratches.

I still have scars on my hands from my muscovies, though, but I got a pair of gloves now so that problem is solved now

If the claws are actually getting too long so that that they are at risk to break off, clipping would be a good idea though, but usually the claws get fret by locomotion on the ground and usually young ducks have sharper claws than adults.

How old are yours?

Talk about bleeding, one of my Scovies caught her nail and ripped it off and I honestly thought she was going to bleed to death. I wouldn't clip if mine.

I know, my Lilac came that way, the breeder never handled them and she fought with them to obviously get them boxed up for us to take. The nail has never grown back either.

He is 5 weeks old today, Im not going to clip them. Dnt want to hurt him by accident and when he climbs in my lap it doesn't bother me. Il just let them get dulled out by the ground. We have concret floors inside so il leave them alone. I really appriciate the advice from everyone.
