It's not a dumb question at all! Many people have asked this and would love to join the wonderful BYC staff. Anyone who is really interested in becoming a moderator I must warn you that it's a lot harder than it seems. I used to be a Moderator on a fish forum awhile back and it's not as glamorous as some people like to think.

1. Many people are going to think of you as the "Bad Guy". It comes with the job of keeping peace.

2. Prepared to often have your inbox full of questions from members.

3. Rules can't be bent for anyone. One of the hardest thing is enforcing the rules on some of the friends you made before becoming a moderator. However, you must learn when your moderating you can't pick favorites or it cause tension between different groups.

4. You're a reflection of the site. Your posts reflect upon the sites image. Even when dealing with small minded people you still must keep a level head. Which is defiantly easier said than done.

5. If you truly love the forum it's still worth it though. Keeping the peace and watching people actually get along after learning from the warning or bannings is actually very rewarding.
