I have a rant - BYC Advertising

I rarely comment on rants and raves and that’s the beautiful thing about America is we are all entitled to our own opinion.

For me it’s about value and what we honor. I can’t even tell you how much of a blessing this site has been since all the craziness and chaos in the world, it’s been awesome to seek help at times when vets weren’t an option due to the beginning of the pandemic.

I never even knew this site has ads, maybe I did Ignore it, I didn’t buy the membership to get rid of the ads, I did it to support such an amazing thing that has helped me from just one little pig to a full blown farm all questions and studying here on this site.

I am not a debater as life is way too short, but silence still is an answer and I choose to whole heartedly support BYC.

A couple other thoughts:

1. How many other websites give people ways to completely turn off all advertising? I can't think of many. In fact, I'm running into more and more "pay-walls" for sites that not only have ads, but require payment to view the content.
2. How many of the TINY % of sites that do allow you to completely turn off all advertising also try to find plenty of ways to win or earn this upgrade for FREE? Our team (including our amazing Volunteer Project Managers) work SUPER hard to create dozens of contests, etc. to get free PFM's out into the community!

I looked up PFM, bought some and am now dutifully paying for my experience. I have benefitted from this site and enjoyed it a lot, and wholeheartedly agree that the people who make it possible need compensation for their time and labor (as do all people providing these “free” services). However, I would much rather pay for that directly than have to deal with ads and being tracked. So the ad blocker stays, but thank you for giving us options and making it possible to contribute directly. That’s my preference in general, and I do give money to other services if they give me the option to do it directly in exchange for no ads or tracking (like Netflix, Wikipedia, etc).
