We have six of our own Pekin eggs close to hatching. The first is pipping right now (eeee!) and this is our first time incubating with an electric thingy and not a mama hen. Would it comfort a chick if we played chicken sounds to it? Or would that be downright confusing?

I hope this makes sense - it's not urgent or anything, just OOI!

I have played you tube with a mother hen and chicks to my babies out of curiosity. They became completely quiet and fell asleep! A rooster crowing was not so soothing. It made me think they can understand their language.
A couple years ago I had 2 chickens, one was killed by a dog and the other one seemed lonely.I set her in front of the computer with a cackling hen and she ran around and around the computer, attaking the computer as of she wanted to chase it away. She became so upset, I would never do that again.
So if you do let them listen to hens or chicks, be careful because it can calm or upset them- but it's fun to watch them perk up when they hear it!!
