I have a redtailed hawk sitting on my chicken fence

Yes, along with the Tom, we also placed a reflecting ball (up high so the girls wouldn't peck it) and built platforms 4' x 4' , 1 ft. high, to give the girls places to hide. Plus I can go out and sit on the platforms and visit with them. They can jump up on these and wait their turn for hugs.

i've lost a few chickens to hawks, only in the winter though, i pen them up and the hawk usually goes away for awhile, my friends used those blow up bunnies and it scared the osprey away from her pond, they were eating her goldfish, if all else fails shoot it, i don't spend good money to feed wildlife anymore, you get bitter when your favorite mottled cochin hens are killed:(

The hawk was back again this morning. I still have them locked up and under cover. He just sits on the fence post and looks around. I chased him off by yelling at him. He was back in about an hour sacred him off twice more. Later, dave27889

Unfortunately they are diligent and very territorial. If he goes away there will always be another. I hope you can come up with a solution that suits you. I see hawks all the time and so do my girls. They run under the coop or their platforms and Victor (the tom) just stands there looking up. I will always have hawks in the area but hopefully they won't have lunch at my house. Good luck.
