i have a rooster now what??

How about going to the neighbors and offering eggs now and then as a peace offering? Most college students will be happy with donated food! (My guess is, they're probably sleeping so soundly at 6:30am, no one hears him anyway...

Hi there!

Why don't you just wait and see. Let things be, and maybe he'll be just fine. Each rooster is different.

No need to rush! He just might be a great protector to your flock.

Maybe some of the neighbors think it sound's cool to hear a rooster. We have a neighbor in our suburb about 6 houses down that definitely has at least 1 or maybe 2 roosters. We hear it/them all day long crowing. But it's totally cool to hear and no one really minds. They crow early but not late into the night and make less noise then the partying people and dogs in the neighborhood. They're the reason we decided to give raising chickens a try b/c we're not really in the country but we also don't have any anti-chicken laws here yet. I am so looking forward to having at least 1 rooster to add a little spice to our flock and fearing that I may have 3 already.

I just sent my little 12 week old roo away today. I probably never would have if I hadn't had the dreaded homeowner's association. Although I do have lovely neighbors, I knew there'd always be the "one" who didn't appreciate the early morning wake up and I didn't want to lose my girls because I got "found out".
Buuut, on another note....Although my little guy protected my girls vigilently against my four dogs, and always had his eye out for their safety and whereabouts, and was hilarious and full of personality, the unfortunate thing was that he started to become what we called, "The Backyard Terrorist", rushing the dogs as they tried to leave the house, flying up to grab whatever was in my hand when I stepped outside (believing it to be a treat for him), and sometimes giving the girls (AND the dogs!) a good peck if they didn't do exactly as told.
Although I had a little cry this morning to lose my darling boy (he was a very beautiful Barred Rock), I also knew that if he was this obnoxious at a couple months old, he'd be a holy terror in a few more!
I think if your little roo is going to be a handful, you'd see the signs by now. If you're allowed roosters, he sounds like a keeper!

I only have 2 hens and they aren't laying yet-im guessing by October well get some eggs. I could go to traders and buy them a carton LOL. I hope they are heavy sleepers- cause he wakes me out of a dead sleep. I'm tempted to seperate him and bring him in the house at night but that seems mean.
