I have a Silkie "Talking loudly". is it possibly a roo?

I have 3 Silkies and Hector, as we think it's a boy, likes to talk loudly, especially in the evening. He walks around making this noise that sounds nothing like any of my other breeds, and I can't even begin to describe the sound. It's kinda like an engine on a midget car trying to turn over, though that isn't even an accurate description. My other two Silkies are relatively quiet, though all 3 are escape artists.

I am wondering if indeed Hector is a roo? My 9 year old has her fingers crossed that he is in fact a male cause she wants Silkie chicks next year. One more question, does how much fluff they have on the top of their heads matter in sexing them? Hector has the least amount on his head and it looks more like a mohawk on him whereas it is pretty fluffy on the other two. I can provide pics, once I figure out where the kids put the camera...

Pictures would help. I have several hens that talk VERY loudly. One we call Sassy because she will get mad at something and Sass so loudly that even her previous owner was convinced she was a roo. She happens to be our most productive layer too. LOL

They just turned 7 weeks old yesterday. Their personalities really amuse me. They aren't as friendly as my other breeds, but they sure are funny to watch and interact with. Of the three only one talks, or complains. Here are some pics from last week. They haven't really changed too much. The pics aren't great but then again they don't like to stand still long enough to get their picture taken!

In that last picture one of them turned toward me and I got a good shot of their comb. Not sure what I have, but I'll need to downsize once more if it turns out that I have two roos and only one pullet. Or *gasp* 3 roos! Let me know if these pics are good. If not, I'll have to locate the camera and take new pics with the kids holding them still.

Now, they all look a lot alike so I might have two pics of one and one pic of another instead of one pic of each of the three. Hector has the least amount of fluff on his head and the other two are close in the amount of the fluff, but Heidi has a different looking comb so usually I can tell her apart from the one she looks like, but only if I pick her up and look at her head on. But if someone cane tell me if I have a roo here, please, I'd love to know. Thanks.

Having a couple of hen silkies that have fairly big combs, it is hard to tell. And at 7 weeks, I would say WAY too early. Honestly I didn't even realize one of our four roos was a roo until he crowed at 6 months. Time will tell what you have if it lays an egg or it crows. Silkies are just not easy to tell compared to other breeds.

That's what I was beginning to figure. I'm not going to sell/trade anyone until I know for sure what I have. For now I find them to be such amusing little characters. They are first to try new foods and always the goofiest to watch. I find them very endearing.

I have 4 silkies and the hens are vocal...

"Momma" makes a weird sound a messed up BAWK
"Dharma" sounds like she is laughing I swear she is laughing at Greg (the roo) every time he gets yelled at cause he is crowing AGAIN! it seems like he never stops.

"baby" is just to do anything yet but chirp

**note the silkies are in my kitchen while we await the tractor gnome to finish building the chicken tractor and when I say we yell at him its from the other room and its like OOOO Greg give it up...not a nasty yell..


**no silkies were harmed in the creation of this post...lol

Uh oh, if that's the case, then Hector is going to be needing a new name...and possibly Heidi too, cause she's the really quiet one! Good thing we still are debating over a name for the third Silkie...
