I have a bird from a small flock of 4 that hasn't been added to the big flock yet because one of their ranks got torn up by the others. It's not the first time something like this has happened in my decade of raising chickens so getting her back up and healed was nnot an issue and she recovered beautifully, and just in time because it's starting to get cold at night and I want her to get used to living outside to harden off for the upcoming winter.

Last night I put her outside with her sisters, injury healed and feathers grown back. thia morning I woke up and went to tend the birds and she was all torn up again. Healing her isn't the problem, and I have a second flock for birds that are too docile or old or getting bullied, but I don't know if I have enough weather left to heal her up inside and then harden her off outside.

The wound isn't as deep this time and will prolly heal quickly, but it's an open wound and I'm not sure if I can set her up to stay outside with an open injury so I don't have her in a dog crate at the foot of my bed all winter.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Make pen outside next to wherever she's going to live. The cooler temps aren't an issue. I'd be more concerned in warm weather with flies about. Chickens are pretty cold hardy, and good at healing. It will be less stressful for her to be near the other birds.

Make a Pen, put some straw in the pen. With some Water an eed, an i woul put something over the top o the Pen. Like a Woo Boar Or something, so no other chicken can ly in the Pen. I woul also get a Heatlamp, Straw is warmer then Shavings so. That may help too
