I just read a post about how newbies are being turned off to BYC for various reasons. This is not the first post like this I have read and I was thinking.

What if we all promised to answer 3-5 unanswered posts each day. If a bunch of us do this and make a pledge to continue for a few weeks maybe this would help with the huge growth this site sees and keep us from loosing some great members before we even get to know them.

I say we all just do 3-5 each day by pressing the unanswered post button and try to keep that box as close to empty as possible.

I know BYC was here for me when I needed it and was a newbie and I would like to give that back and hate seeing poss about people turning away from the forum cause no one responded or was nasty when they did.

So who wants to join me???

I will help ya.. I do atleast 5 or so unaswered each time im on .. I however need to jump over and say welcome to more folks.. Usually M to The Maxx beats me to it .. LOL

I will! I try to answer unanswered post as much as possible. Its kinda sad when no one responds!

I also try to do this-I will, however, try to be more faithful about it.

I sure can try but imagine so many unanswered posts! Not everyone gets their questions answered 100% of the time.

I have to say I agree with the mean vibe going around. There are a lot of great people on here with a lot of knowledge... but it just takes a few negative ones to make it not so much fun. Everyone started of new at some point! There is no problem with posting your opinion in order to better someone elses chicken experience, but making smart remarks, or comments is so unnecessary.

What a great idea.

I've been thinking about this lately, I've been comsumed with other matters......but I really want to get back into the swing of BYC things again. I will definitely make myself more available to some newbie questions and help out to the best of my ability.

I try to welcome people and help when I can already. I was welcomed and helped so nicely when I joined, I try to pass it forward. I think some of the problem is that I am still relatively new myself and other than moral support, I really can not help someone. The group has grown so fast that the real knowledgeable people are swamped and can not get to things, and some of them may even come off as blunt or tactless because they do not have the time to be heartfelt and concerned in a 'smilie sort of way'. Things can be read wrong and they can be written wrong. I have been stung by some of the people on here that I admire, so I try to reassess my feelings and grow a thicker cyberskin. I have tried to help and been told that I don't know what I am talking about. I have a broad education in some rather informative areas, but that doesn't mean anything when you are a nameless faceless person on some cybersite.
I will try harder to help. It is easier sometimes to just stick to the 'hello and welcome' format. How wrong can that be? I will check 3 unanswered posts on the days I am on, and if nothing else, it will bump them back up into the mainstream.
