I have an itch...

I am sitting here playing with the chicks and I have an Itch to go buy them something, anything!

This is like puppy fever and wanting to buy them everything. Yes my dogs are spoiled and I am transferring some of that to the chicks.

Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, I do this too. Since I can't keep buying them things, I make them things. See this thread for some ideas.

Buy them some sprouts! You will laugh at them playing keepaway, like they had a worm.

Lordy, yes! Mealworms. Shredded mozarella cheese. My chicks KNEW when I came in with the little red ceramic dish, THAT was something SPECIAL.

They also seemed to enjoy an empty toilet paper tube in the brooder with them.

I built one of those gravity waterers with the nipple in the bottom of a gallon milk jug and they learned to use it right away. That cut down on the mess in the brooder BIG TIME. Plus, I didn't have to keep washing the waterer any more, because they kept pooping in it, or walking in it and dragging litter into it, etc.

They don't like sprouts. I have offered it twice and both times they didn't want anything to do with it. Also banana is a no go. Apples were so-so.
They love the mealworms and boiled egg.

The older ones have a perch, it is raised now to about a foot. I am about to go find another branch for a perch for the little ones.

The younger have the toilet paper roll and also these rings from a McD's toy. The little ones love to run through the rings! I watched one chick actually make a course.

But still itching for more. lol When I am in town again I will check out the big bird toys and cat ones. Hmmmm

I made my 4 week olds some cornbread with some canned corn mixed in and a little cheese. They went psycho for it. I still can't get them to eat yogurt, they just walk in it and then step on the wood shavings, jump on the food dish and make a huge mess lol.. DH gave them a little tiny bit of his strawberry pancakes yesterday and they all fought over it lol. They do like boiled egg yolk and have been getting that every couple days as a treat.

I am so glad I don't have that itch!

i did stop by the pet store and bought some bird toys. Now I have to construct something so I can hang it down at their height.
