Uhg yeah the boys can be such little pains!

I always hear how nice silkie boys tend to be but I have yet to have a really nice silkie cock that was also flock leader. Most of my boys are much nicer to humans when in a bachelor flock, the problem there is they don't always get along with each other very well. I've had great roosters before that were also flock leaders, they just weren't silkies. I'm looking forward to finally getting a gentlemen silkie cock, crossing my fingers some of my young grow out boys will turn out that way. I'd like to breed towards nice temperaments but it's hard when you are starting out and all your options are little stinkers.

The male I've got with my girls right now isn't too bad but he is young and a little overzealous with the girls. He is protective but not aggressive for no reason so far. I'm hoping he'll get better with age and start respecting the girls when they aren't in the mood a bit more. It could also go the other way but time will tell.

I hope you get lucky and the boys you've got in this batch are sweethearts or at least one is so you can have a nice boy to keep. :)

Yeah my boys were little sweeties until they were 5 months old. Lol.
or when I had a main jerk roo the other males were nice. But as soon as jerk roo was rehomed the nice one became a jerk.

Little boogers!

Yeah that goes right along with what I've experienced from my silkie cockerels. I got them from a lot of different breeders too so I don't think it was just a certain line being prone to being little jerks.

I've heard a few breeders say give them time, their teenage phase can be pretty bad but they can grow out of it. I haven't put a lot of the boys I kept back for over a year with the main flock so haven't tested it out thoroughly for myself. I can say some of the worst never did get better and that is without them even being around girls.
