I agree with Linda. I have over 20 roosters. Some are more agressive twards the hens, others are scared to DEATH of the hens and hide in the corner.

I have a quad of adult Seramas (type of chicken), and the rooster ( Little Man ) is THE cutest little rooster you will EVER see. He is a very agressive breeder, but he is a real gentleman at heart.

When I give the girls a treat he rushes over and takes little bits in his beak and trys to feed it to his girlies, so sweet. He loves to be cuddled, but can be fiesty if he wants to!

When I call "Little Man" he starts going CrAzY, he will run up and down the ramp chattering, and when I walk up to the hutch he will puff out his feathers and charge me, and try to "flog" me!

He has sired some GORGEOUS little cockerels, and has passed on his personality to them. I saw go for it!

If your worried about the rooster getting to ruff when mounting your hens ive heard of people getting chicken saddle or aprons for their hens to protect them.
Ive never tryed it but have heard its quite successful.
I personally love having a rooster, they take good care of the hens and the hens seem to love the attention they get from him.
But it all depends on the rooster some are nicer then others.
Maybe try an introduction with one of your hens and the roo and see how he treats her?

No Problem!

When I was given my 1st chickens, a rooster came with them. I didn't want to take him, but that was part of the deal, if I wanted the hens i had to take the roo also. I was afraid of roos from having a nasty one on the farm as a child. Now over a year later, I love my roos. Yes, more than 1. Right now I have 2 adult and several youngersters that I haven't decided if I'm keeping yet or not. My chickens are only about 200 feet or so from the house, and I cannot hear them from inside unless I'm standing right in front of the sliding glass door with it open, or if I stand out on the deck. I say go for it.
